I'm all ears on the copper coat debate, I can't make up my mind.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

I started another thread on Copper Coat and despite asking people to not reply there's some useful info and also links from GordMay to every other thread on CC too.

For what it's worth Dave the CC quote we got in Dubai was €7000 and that DOESN'T include the lift [emoji15]

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

The actual price for the CC increased to €5,000 and the Robin Marine quote was much more than I expected and as I'm just about scraping all this cash together I need to either cut back on the work that gets done, get discounts or find other cheaper contractors.

I'm impatient tho and now that I'm having to work to fund this adventure my time is precious and I don't want to spend my days off wiring inverters and installing solar panels.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Quick question for the 450 owners.
What is the real world fuel usage for cruising?
LPH on 1 engine and 2 engines? Most comfortable cruising speed?
Thanks

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

just made 2400 miles

almost you can calculate with 3 ltr/ hour /engine

RPM 2000 to 2200

Most of the time i go with one engine only if the wind and waves are not

against you

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Perfect thanks. Assuming no wind or tide, what speed is 1 engine at 2,200rpm?

sorry to for the diversion:
Could you confirm the 4JH57 diesel consumption for 1 engine ? It looks high with 1 engine at 2400rpm, about 6Liters.
So with 1000L tanks and at 6knts, that would be about 1000miles range (for that speed).
Does this seem right ?

What are the typical ranges you guys L450 owners/cruisers are assuming ?

I work on on 3lt / hour per engine, and plan my passages 6 knots, but there is no such thing as typical. You can go from motoring in dead flat, zero wind with one or two engines, through motor sailing with one or two engines and one or two sails. Up to motoring into head seas and winds of wildly varying conditions.

Over the past 3 years the average fuel burn which I calculate when filling tanks each time has been as low as 2.6lt/hr up to just recently 3.2lt/hr but that higher fuel use was over the past 3 months, all motoring in tidal passages and river areas Moreton Bay / Broadwater Qld. More often than note against the current without wind assistance.

Keep an eye on your aft steps, to much power can translate into the boats aft squatting and water covering the lower steps. Fuel is being burnt at a greater rate for very little gain in boat speed.

Hope to shake the dust out of the sails, as we depart North this weekend.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

6kts and 3ltrs/hour entered into my Navionics. Cheers.

That's slightly slower than my previous settings of 25kts and 100ltrs/hour!

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

I've been having lots of fun lately ordering all the kit needed for a new boat. It's much more than I anticipated and if anyone is reading this with a budget in mind. You can pretty much throw it out the window.

I can't believe how much everything with a 'marine' in the title costs.

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

I'd just like to ask the L450 owners if there's anything else I should be changing or upgrading before she launches next month?

Re: Just signed on a new 450s!

Have you done the saftey Equipment ?
I used the ARC Rally checklists as a guide.

LifeJackets + Tethers.
Jackstays.
Flares
Smoke
Lifering / Danbouy etc

etc etc etc.....

I hear you on the price of anything with the word 'marine' on it.

I'm currently in the middle of 'recommissioning' our new-to-Us 450. Whilst it is a 2011 model, it had very low usage (550 engine hours approx), sails almost new, and NOTHING onboard. (The lifering had SIX Cable-ties 'securing' it to the boat') no, i'm not kidding.

Work we are getting done just for reference. (yours obviously varies as new)
- Yanmar Service
- SD Service
- Two new props
- Shelves Above credenza in owners cabin
- Custom fold down desk in Owners cabin
- Shelves in various cabinets in Salon and Pt-Fwd cabin (that is being turned into an offce)
- Raymarine Service and software update + AIS fitted.
- VHF power check.
- Antifoul, polish, etc etc.
- Few minor GRP things fixed from survey.
- Watermaker fitted. (Desalator Duo).
- Solar Arch built for 6 x Sunpower 360w pannels.
- Rigging check and adjustment.
- Replace worn downhaul.
- Most likley replacing all running rigging.
- Replace gas-lines (out of date) and Fit electronic Solenoid with Switch. (NOT standard on the earlier 450's)
- Fit Webber BBQ.

And some other stuff I prob forgot. (going to do a post later when its done with pics etc)

It certainly adds up.

Regards
