Re: Just A Simple But Handy Cockpit Bag......

Hey, that brings back Whitsunday area memories! We worked at Happy Bay Long Island for 3 + years and built our first yacht there on the island...

Was it a 420 you chartered? Lot's of eskies in cockpit...Love the Cocky on the lifelines.

Great idea! Easily accessible storage is just invaluable. Your boat is looking just fabulous with all the recent work .

Better than at the top of the mast LOL.
That shot brought back memories of the skilled cockies on Hamilton snapping off every single Windex in the marina!

It was a L400 owners version. Refrigeration would be an issue for liveaboard and had drinks to keep cold hence eskys.

The main fridge was out of action and they supplied a camper type and i did not like the freezor in cockpit.

Here is a good freezor. Mate building a Schonning at Canonvale.

I love the Ozefridge. I converted the fridge in our L380 from engine driven Frigoboat to a Ozefridge setup. Brilliant. So easy to install & used the water tank">fresh water tank for the water cooling.

Oh re: the cockies on Hamilton. I have just replaced the Raymarine wind transducer on top of the mast as the old one was "destroyed" by them on Hamilton. Not cheap!

gspeak,

Can you explain how you are using the fresh water tank for water cooling of your ozfridge.

cheers

Downunder,
The Ozefridge is designed to be both air & water cooled. The water cooling is not recommended for sea water. You can use any water container of 40L or more. The fresh water tanks on the L380 are perfect.

I have previously described the installation on the lagooncatowners forum, so I'll just paste it here:

"The install was very straight forward, only made difficult by having to work
through the small saloon seat hatch access : P

The location under the seat was perfect as there was already a 240V junction box there that I added a new power point to, as well as a 12 volt junction box for the anchor winch & even better, the water feed pipe from the starboard water tank runs right through here so it allowed me to tee off it. The return pipe to the water tank is very small & easily installed into the top of the tank.

Also my under seat space already had the 2 louvered vents beside the fridge
cabinet.

I installed the digital controller where the old rotary timer was.

The unit is very quiet & works brilliantly. I believe that the fact that it only
has a 1.5 metre run of refrigerant piping compared to the many, many metres of the old engine driven system helps immensely.

On a recent trip of 3 days & 2 nights the unit only needed to power up twice to refreeze the eutectic tank which is set at minus 11C. Though this is winter here in the North Queensland Tropics with temps ranging 17 to 25 degrees C.

Will be interesting to see in summer & whether I have to install the additional
cooling fan I ordered to better ventilate the under seat space.

PS Normal caveat ... I have nothing to do with Ozefridge except being a very
happy customer."

Re: Just A Simple But Handy Cockpit Bag......

So the water from the fresh holding tank recycles exchanging the heat.
I wonder what elevations of temperatures occur at say half tank mid-summer?

Very interesting idea.......

That's very nice work.... I've seen many boats even here with eskies in the cockpit to back up inadequate refrigeration.....

I'm in the tropics & this summer the most we have let that tank go down to would be 50L. The tank doesn't heat up much at all as far as we can tell as the fridge only runs for a max 3 hours/day in summer.

"Plus the ER480 system are air and water cooled. The ER480 will work as air cooled only untill the condenser temperature reaches 32C when the water cooling is added automatically. This digital controll provides the best possible condensing and power efficiency."

Did I mention that it is a great Australian made & designed product & they were a great bunch to buy off.

Re: Just A Simple But Handy Cockpit Bag......

LMAO yes yes you did... We will be building a freezer next winter so i'm starting collecting ideas having buit a few eutectic systems previous, think i'll do some research here because tropical water temps stifle most systems.

I like it thanks for the heads up

The Schonning build freezer I showed was also using an OzFridge.

Note unit in bottom of pantry.

Yep ... I saw that in your first photo. Recognised the tanks. That's why I originally commented
