Sorry for the thread drift but I have a 6 years old PVC dinghy which is starting to fall appart, mainly the handles and protection patches. I bought a two component glue and am very happy with the result 6 months after the first repair.

Over the last few weeks I have been wondering whether I should have the dinghy rebuild with hypalon next season or if I should buy a sunbrella cover and keep doing small repair here & there until the dink is completely dead.

A cover is at least 800 EUR for my 3.8m dink. How long will it last ? Is it even worth it ?

lagoon says 340 for L450, 310 is more like L400. I have 260 and is enough but may increase to 290 when time comes. Some people push to 380 and 0.5T of weight.

'max' maybe means 'mad max' guy from the movie driving dinghy to the max around anchorage ?

I'm assuming your in the Med so certainly not the tropics but my guess is your probably getting near end of life for the dink. PVC is a lot cheaper of course but it's a reasonable alternative in the Med..we had one and it lasted around 5 years there and we sold it in the Caribbean after we arrived and while it would have probably lasted longer in the Med I'm sure there wouldn't be much left of it now. For 800 Euro I'd be more inclined to just use your present dink until it falls apart and use the 800 Euro towards a new one. You may well get a couple of more years out of it as long as you stay there.

To the OP, if you want a big dinghy and want to pull it on the beach I think you have to go aluminium. The CL380 from highfield (or similar from other brands) is probably the biggest you can use at 82kg. I have a seaclonic 380 aluminium with honda 20hp, works great, but I would not handle anything heavier.

I am not aware of any trouble with white powder coated aluminium btw.

Do you think CL380 fits well on the 450?
I just bought a new 450 and have to choose the dinghy.

Does no one consider that Highfeild are manufactured in China where as AB and Caribe for that matter are manufactured in America.
I personally find that as a consumer we have the power to vote with our spending. I Don't by things made in PRC.
