Emergency Tiller

Hello all,
we are in throes of completing all our preparations to head north for the rest of the year. We had just about completed everything with one of the last jobs to take the emergency tiller home, clean and repaint. When we bought the boat last February I checked the boat had the emergency tiller but did not actually fit it. Big mistake .
When I took the tiller out of its locker I thought I would just check all the fittings but I was absolutely horrified when the emergency tiller did not fit. In fact it did not fit the slot in the rudder housing, it was not high enough to clear the stern and it was not long enough to use in a safe position on the stern of the boat. Kicking myself big time but dam happy I have found the problem before we headed off.
As the boat is an ex charter boat I am not that surprised but I am surprised that this was not sorted earlier for the boat to have passed its survey each year. I am disappointed with myself for not checking earlier and P**D off with the surveyor for not identifying the issue.
My tip to fellow Lagoon owner base on what I have just discovered is to check that your emergency tiller actually fits and works as it should.
