Best sail choice either code zero or spinnaker?

Both,
You can never have to many sails.
I have a symmetrical, asymmetrical, and a Code "0".
I use them all and my boat speed stays up.

I agree with Scottster, and we have both but we tend to use the asymmetric spinnaker more.

code 0, presume same as gennaker. I also have both but gennakar used way more. It is sub 10 kn sail, and can do upwind to around 40 app if seas smooth enough.

Else 60 app and above is used in rough 7 kn+ seas when other boats motor and spi dont work.

We have a "Gennaker" (per Lagoon manual) on a furler, it is OK for reaching, but anything aft of 100 degree apparent we change to assymetric kite on a bridle with sock, using same halyard. Asymetric tack is on a bridle that can be pulled to either bow & allows it to be used quite well for dead down wind, letting it ballon out We bought the Hood spi from Bacon sails Annapolis second hand - 60ft luff 2.5oz $1500, probably 50% + more sail area than the gennaker. It also works well at 60deg apparent with the tack centred on the bridle, it could also be attached to the prodder pole if one could be bothered. We have run it with 20 knots + no problem as long as you head downwind to dowse it behind the main.This has relieved the pain of sailing ddw at slow speed with main swinging from side to side, we love it. A balloon/ parachute spi would be better still for this purpose, ddw, but we don't want to change sails that often + cost!. The furling gennaker is nice because it is easy to furl and unfurl, but the assymetric spi is a better all round sail if you only want one sail.
