410 Rudder Types

I'm looking at some 410's that are for sale, and finding that there are three kinds of rudders listed:
- Skeg
- Spade
- Balanced

Can anyone share experience or perspective on these types, specifically related to the Lagoons' application of them?

Also, I understood this boat could be landed on a beach, but don't saildrives preclude that? I have no experience with this, but really did think that the lagoons were supposed to stand on their hulls. If there are saildrives and spade rudders, though, it seems like this would not work. Where am I going wrong with this?

Re: 410 Rudder types

I suspect that the balanced and spades are the same type, but I'm not sure of that.

Re: 410 Rudder types

Skeg has a keel usually a fin in it's front part.
Balanced has up to 10% (usually of it's area in front of the shaft centre to give a form of power steering or negative load.
Spade is free hanging can be balanced or not.
All for different design criteria/purpose....

Re: 410 Rudder types

So do these different 410's really all have the same kind of rudder, just identified differently? Or did Lagoon really create some Skeg and some Spade type boats?

Maybe they are all "Skeg hung balanced spades" as cat-man-do's had, or maybe some are skeg and some are not.

Careka, are you saying then that the keels are deeper than the drives or rudders, and therefore it is safe to set them right down on the sand? I should search online for some detailed photos or illustrations, I'll bet they're out there somewhere.

Re: 410 Rudder types

The Lagoons are designed so stand on the hulls. Saildrive & rudder are less dep than the hulls.
The boats stand on the hulls in Les Sables d'Olonne/France before launching.

Re: 410 Rudder types

My 410 (2006) has no saildrive but a shaft drive. The keels are the deepest part of the boat - but only, if the bottom is really plain! You will have to check before.

The 410 should be able to beach, but in the Mediterranien, I never will find out.
