400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

I just picked up a new 400S2 in the Pacific North West.
It was a in stock boat and some things need to be added.
I was wondering if any owners have installed the washing machine,any thoughts. Has anybody got that option?
If so what make and how does it work.

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Thanks Monty;
I think the 400 has a much different cabinet layout from the S2.
In fact it does, I appreciate the post.
My specific question would be for the S2 location.
I have a full locker on the left side of the hallway on the starboard hull just before you enter the washroom (head) in the owners cabin.
The top of said cabinet has a removable shelf. The backing on the cabinet is cut out and I think that is the roughed in location for the washing machine.
To be clear I am almost certain this is true, school me if I am wrong as I have only been in that cabinet once and delivery is still 2 weeks away.
If true I would expect that more than 1 manufacturer will make a machine to fit said opening.
Comments and help ?
Thanks in advance.
Scott

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Why the eleven ?'s?

This is something you take up with your dealer as not many people have S2's yet.

Why not just measure the opening and then do some research on dimensions of washing machines to see what fits?

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

OK mate, we are sitting on board our new 400S2 (#386) in Les Sables as I type. The owners cupboard size looks the same as the link above. The back appears removable and the opening size at the front is 470 x 820. You could probably squeeze in a couple more cm's wide but would need to remove the door. Possibly the door could be refitted after installation. Feel free to ask if you need any other details.
Actually I just noticed the manual has very clear rear connection details on the installation as well.

Thumbs up Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Thanks Monte;
I am #313.
I now see the picture in the manual.
I wonder how that machine works?
Further I wonder if there are other choices to be had?
I guess I will find out.
Like the post from above a bit of research will go a long way.
Maybe we will meet up when you get back to the Pacific.
Thanks again
Scott

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

We installed a washing machine in the locker where the genset normally goes (we don't have a genset) on our 420.

Another 400 owner (gbqld on the Lagoon Catamaran Catamaran Owners Group) installed an RV model washing machine 12/240V in the forward deck locker.

These installations are relatively simple and don't take up valuable room in the cabin.

Lorraine & I have recently purchased a 400s2. We choose to convert the space normally used for a factory installed washing machine into additional storage for the kitchen. We added a few extra shelves. So far we are using laundromats for washing.

We have a friend with a Lagoon 400. He first installed a horizontal floor in the forard anchor compartment and then a Sphere washing machine on that floor. It just fits and he says it works fine. We have installed the same floor in that compartment but no washing machine yet.

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

I see above there was a link already to our blog already. Congratulations on your new vessel, I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as we do.
I will add this regarding washing machines, we have 2 small children so our washing requirements are probably a lot more than just a couple cruising. Anyhow the 3 kg machine which was the cupboard was designed for to go in was not big enough for us.
So we cut the cupboard out, with the assistance of a good shipwright,we have kept the cupboard doors etc which will come in handy for another project I am working on, and we installed a Simpson EZI 7 kg machine which is nearly half the usual depth of standard machines.This machine we brought at a third of the price of the 3kg machine, it has a water sensor so it goes easy on the water, and a spin cycle which has the clothes nearly dry by the time its finished. We have found we do not have as much washing when out cruising, but if needed I can run it on our Yamaha portable generator.
I believe the S2 model has re-positioned the electrical switchboard to the area where we put the washing machine, so I would suggest removing a few access panels and see what space is available.
If you only require 3 kg machine then maybe search some caravan or RV sites.
Anyway better go hang out the washing.

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Thanks Katsumi;
I hope our 400 makes us as happy as you seem to be.
My 400S2 S/V MUSKOKA will be in the Pacific North West for the short term and off to who knows were after that.
3kg does seem very tiny.
I do not have kids sailing with me.
I would like the machine to fit in the allotted space for aesthetic reasons.
Research into other brands of machines that fit the dimensions is something I will delve into.
Thanks Again
Scott

Congratulations on your 400. We are the owners of Amritha in Sidney, B.C.. Did you purchase from Fraser Yachts? Look forward to seeing another cat in the area.
