2004 410 S2

So, I'm working on buying a 410, already got the loan, just trying to get it surveyed and what not. Timing hasn't allowed me to go see it yet (it's in Martinique) but I hope get down there next month.....I plan on having it sailed up to Florida and will need a Capt (I know there's another section for that). Any of you experienced folks know how long it would take to get from there to Coconut Grove FL.? Also, anyone have any general words of wisdom or answers to questions that I don't even know to ask?

Why move it from Martinique?... what are your plans?

I want to move it closer so I can use it more often, takes some additional sailing classes and improve my sailing skills, and overall just get more familiar with the boat. If I leave it there I won't be able to fly down as much.

Oh we so loved the Bahamas.. If I wasn't full time cruising, then I "get it".. If you wanted a boat and still worked then it makes sense.

If your plans are to full time cruise in the Carribean then no reason to move it up to the USA. As nice as the Bahamas are, the Thorny path isn't really worth it. Martininique is a pretty fantastic location for both boat work and excellent cruising. Its a false economy to move a boat up from Martinique to "get it ready for cruising". Sure stuff is a little more money, but NOT anywhere near as much as I was lead to beleive. In fact I routinly find items (at the Chandlery) I paid more money for in Florida.

Just some food for thought!

Re: 2004 410 S2

I retire in 8 years or so and we are going to live aboard and cruise in the Carib. But I'm not there yet and I still have a lot of learning to do and I want to learn on my boat. I'm not moving it up to make it ready for cruising, I'm moving it up so I can use it more. The cost of tickets are cheaper to FL and the flight time is half as long (I live and work in DC). Though my preference is a 450 to retire on, I think this will work...who knows, maybe I'll upgrade in 10 years. What I don't want is a boat someplace that I can't afford the money and or time to use.

Re: 2004 410 S2

Does anyone have any insight on registering a non US documented boat in the US for the first time. I've checked the USCG site as well as Floridas requirements but I'm sure I'm missing something. I'm also sure this has been covered on this site at least twice but I'm traveling and on my IPad and the search function doesn't work for me. Any help would be appreciated.
