Negative? No. Just a devil's advocate asking the tough questions the OP needs to be prepared to answer. If you don't like my demeanor too bad. I'm a New Yorker and don't apologize for it.

Presume me to be a curmudgeon if it suits you but I doubt you will find more ardent supporter of the arts on this forum. Not crossing the Atlantic soon but have done so before.

Also, I have provided partial financing for a documentary film before. How many of you can say that of yourselves?

Carnival Roots (2002) - IMDb

It's the year 2016. If you don't even have at least a website in support of your film company I don't understand how you can expect finaciers to take you seriously. Do you take yourself seriously?

Makes it seem like you don't even have a film company. And having a film company isn't much to begin with since any swinging dick can call themselves a documentary film maker these days. At which point you are just a bunch of guys looking to "use" someone's boat to cross an ocean.

Take yourself seriously. Present yourself as such. Best of luck.

Maybe you should volunteer to take them on your own boat?

It's great that these guys have a grant for their project but I doubt the dollar amount is enough because no matter how much money you have it is never enough.

Having a public identity and sharing a tease of your narrative are critical to attracting the kind of investment required to produce the best film possible if your goal is to gain the widest distribution possible.

It ain't what you know it's who you know and if you are a first time filmmaker nobody knows you. Make yourself known.

Having worked in the industry for 25 years I have no problem with the request.

If I'm not mistaken, the OP came on here looking for a ride, not a lesson on how to do business in his own industry. Sheez.

This is an Internet forum where opinionated people get together to give their solicited and sometimes unsolicited opinions as several of you have done on many many occasions. The unsolicited bits probably account for at least half the content on this site.

If anyone really disagrees with my assertion that no matter how much money backing a project it is never enough or that having enough money is essential to producing the best quality product or that how you present yourself is critical to finding and attracting support, then I am sorry for trying to be helpful in my own way. Happy sailing!

Ummmm, yes. You didn't come across as you may have intended, to my text reading eye.

In general with ads: I have asked the Mods a million times to have advertisments a comment free zone. To no avail, of course.
So many times people have advertised to just have their ad poisoned by ill informed morons says: No, No, No, you CAN'T do that your way, you can only do that MY way".

Case in point was my last ad looking for a car to borrow in the USA. The ad was poisoned so I have paid Hertz a bit over $1,000 when I could have given a forum person, say, $500 for their unused vehicle. The right deal would have helped both of us...... except for totally disassociated forum people saying "No, No, No!"

C'mon. We've met and had a beer before together. You know that even in real life I come across as a total ****** even though I have good intentions.

I tried to give away a free bottle of top shelf rum and instead of drinking it they all left me with beer. So now I have rum and beer on board! Americans are too generous
