Crew Available: Where best to pick up crewing in S Pacific?

Where's a good place in the South Pacific to pick up crewing?

I've always wanted to go there and have six months free to build up my sailing experience (Day Skipper at the moment), so I thought it would be a good place to start at this time of year. If I can't sort out anything from the UK in the next few weeks I'm planning to fly out to Fiji and see what I can pick up. Not entirely sure whether this is a good idea though.

Anyone have any thoughts? Should I be looking elsewhere?
