Trip from Northeast => South

I am looking for help to get my 30' Columbia south for the winter. I like to travel without a schedule letting weather, etc. decide when to travel. I will be leaving the northeast (New York) Sept/Oct. Looking for help for all or part of the trip. I have no set plans as to stops or layovers and will accept suggestions. I will pay all boat expenses, crew must furnish personal items, life vest, rain gear etc.--i am retired and seek someone that does not require time schedule. Destination will be the Keys--subject to change

Hello,
If your willing to take on someone without much experience, I would be interested. Love to learn as much as possible about sailing/navigating.
Let me know,
Darton

Hi,
I'm interested as well, only problem is that i dont have my own life jacket. Other than that, I hav over 3000nm logged, although not yet in North America so would love to experience that side of the world. I have RYA Dayskipper Theory with all the trimmings (sea survival, lifejacket servicing certified, VHF/Short range radio, etc; email me for a sailing resume if interested!)

Sounds like an excellent trip. I've got one Atlantic crossing and some time in the BVI's. Completed STCW 95 last month.

I'm at awgjr at msn dot com

Re: Trip from Northeast => South

Hi,
My name is David Leggitt. I am looking for an adventurous boat to crew on this winter for a few months. I have a bit of experience on a 26’ sloop in the waters around Juneau, Alaska and in the Pacific coast of Panama. I have also been taking friends out on a 16’ Hobie Cat on the lakes of northern Arizona where I live and work as a seasonal wildland firefighter in the summers. I only work for half of the year so I have the rest off to make my own adventures. I have spent most of my life working and playing in the outdoors. I have experience leading river and mule packing trips into remote locations for multiple days. I can cook, I can clean, I have basic knowledge of small motors and pumps, I am Wilderness First Responder certified (an 80 hour course dealing specifically with medical emergencies in remote locations), I am confidant sailing small craft in light winds but I love the thrill of high winds and high seas and am eager to learn more. I am available after mid-October and I would like to be home for the holidays but if things are good I can skip that. I can meet you wherever you are and can contribute to costs aboard the boat. I have a valid passport and can speak passable Spanish. Give me a call at 818 939 2635 or e-mail me at dj_leggitt@yahoo.com (because of my work schedule I might not respond for a week or two, but I will respond). Thanks for your time.
Cheers,
David

Re: Trip from Northeast => South

I may be able to help for at least portions of the move South. I am a young 52 year old male in very good condition, have an extensive sailng and boating resume, including professional qualifications and licenses. I am proficient in all manor of sail and sailboats up to 75'. I just finished a 3 1/2 weel sail on a 47' catamaran in the BVI down to just off Granada, where I tought the new owner and his daughter how to sail his boat. I can usually get along with nearly anyone and are comptetent in pretty much any seaway and condition. That said, I prefer taking my time and enjoying the travel, the stops, the food, and the experience. If you are interested I can send my resume and we can see where it goes from there. Thanks,
Mitch

Re: Trip from Northeast => South

Hello,
Seems like you've gotten some great responses so far, but just in case...
My boyfriend and I are looking to crew a boat as far south as we can! We're Maine natives but we can meet you anywhere up or down the East Coast. Adam has a bunch of sailing experience, and I have less. We are great learners, cooks, carpenters, fisherpeople, spanish-speakers, and fabulous friends. Please let me know if you still need crew!

I'm currently in Cartagena Colombia and would love the chance to crew with you. I'm currently on my journey of backpacking around the world so I too am on no schedule and want to learn and experience new things. Ready to leave whenever and work hard.
