Trans Atlantic - June/ July 2013
Hi Everyone,
I posted this morning a thread looking for two competent crew for a trans Atlantic passage to the Med in June/ July.
I am currently in Charleston, SC & plan to go via New York & the Azores,
I have a very well equipped 2004, Catalina 42 with all she needs for a successful, safe & enjoyable passage.
Each crew will need to contribute to food & boat expenses & these should be around $150 per week.
If you are interested, have good skills & experience, I'd like to hear from you.
I can be contacted on 410 570 8958 or PM.
Thanks
Trish

Why would anyone want to pay anything to help move an unknown boat
for an unknown Captain across the North Atlantic during hurricane season????
Just wondering.

Hi Jim & gar,
I'm sorry I have offended your senses so much you need to write such things.
All that I have read & all the delivery captains I have spoken to who've got many of these crossings under their belts, say this the best time to go & there is absolutely no point leaving earlier than June.
You are right, you don't know me, or my boat.

Re: Trans Atlantic - June/ July 2013
Hi Trish,
July is getting a bit late in many people's eyes.
Jimmy Cornel in World Cruising Routes, Bermuda to Azores AN62 says best is May, June: "After the beginning of July, the risk of hurricanes becomes increasingly higher in the area around Bermuda..."
But I agree with you that dopey lines as in this thread do not explain, let alone win an argument!
If I was doing it I would be at sea now... But very close to the Azores by now, if not past...

Re: Trans Atlantic - June/ July 2013
Mark
I too would be out & about but finding suitable crew has been more than a little difficult.
They are a flighty bunch & it doesn't just happen to me.
I am going via New York from Charleston, not via Bermuda. I agree the area around Bermuda can be tricky early in the season. Jimmy Cornell says the route that I am planning is best done in June/ July. My staging point is Nantucket.
It's a shame some find it necessary to be negative & more than a bit spiteful.

Yes, you are right, that northern route is fine in July. I think you needed to have that in your ad.
Good luck with it.
BTW I sail by myself so never need to worry about crew. I just head off!

Hi Mark,
I think I had made my route clear. Moreover, I am not about to justify well researched decisions with people who have nothing better to do with their time than behave poorly.

Re: Trans Atlantic - June/ July 2013
Trish if you think hurricanes don't reach up to the North sea in july think again and in a power boat you may be able to out run one but a sailboat I don't think so.Also I would never ask a delivery capt advise their job is to push it to the limit to make money they take great risk for a great payday on a boat they don't own.if you don't want my advise then don't take it this post will be for the dummy that goes with you, like I said its my opinion.
