Cheers mate...
It do get a bit blustery out there.. did 14kts surfing bare poles in '04 just NE of Bermuda... but once we get SE of the 'Wall' its not that bad.. just hope the Arctic jet stream does not head S at an inconvenient time...
Other than that.. I'm extremely well versed in heaving to.. for as long as it takes...

I get you on that. I think peoples input might be much better received if it was not in such a rude manner. I am amazed at times how people communicate on the Net. I have seen it from the first day of the web (was not like that before the masses and the web). People that would never dare be so rude in person seem to take on completely different personas over on the net.

Maybe someone pissed in his corn flakes yesterday.

I'm interested to join. Do you still need crew?

Trish...

Fine job of deflecting the riff raff.... 19 total posts at this time, and none of it helpful...

Keep doing your homework... But you already know this!

I've seen your previous posts, and wish you a fine passage...

Re: Trans Atlantic - June/ July 2013

I'm a greenhorn on this site so don't take my question as anything but curiosity. Is it the norm to charge someone for providing a captain with a service that the captain needs to make a trip? Once again, not taking sides, just curious. Would someone explain.

Thank you.

Re: Trans Atlantic - June/ July 2013

Kelly,
I think you are looking at this the wrong way around. Many people for a variety of reason be it pleasure, miles, adventure, want to do a trans ocean trip which they either are unable to do otherwise. Maybe they don't have a boat capable of such a trip, maybe they don't own a boat, maybe they want to see if they'd like to buy a boat & so on.
The cost is minimal in anyone's language. It costs more per week on land. Additionally, they get to be in the destination they wanted.
Try thinking about what they get out of it, not what is being given, because on a trans ocean crossing, the contribution, is also minimal.
Thanks
Trish

All depends if you make your living that way or not. Most crossings that my friends have done have all been as an adventure or pleasure with other friends (or new friends).

But if you make your living by being a delivery captain or delivery crew, then of course you need to charge for those services. Everyone needs to eat!

Re: Trans Atlantic - June/ July 2013

These people are neither delivery captains or delivery crew. They sometimes don't have any real experience at all.
If you'd paid attention to the ad for crew, it would have become apparent. Furthermore, I have not done a trans ocean before & am in fact employing a delivery captain to assist me.
If you are new to this site, try not to get into hot water too quickly by assuming things you don't know about.

Re: Trans Atlantic - June/ July 2013

Mmmm.. I'm guessing that was a response to me.

i was replying to TomKelly's question. All I am saying is that "the norm" is different for different people.

Just read this thread.. Wow is all I can say. I ask everybody this; how many times have you made the northern route passage?
I wouldn't take the chance, risk of to many storms, but many have made it safely. To get three weeks of weather is hard.. Don't rush life...
