Nope. Look near the modern cities of Gaza & Ashkelon.
Philistines were inhabitants of Philistia (southern coast of Canaan), who came to Palestine from the Aegean (probably Crete), in the 12th century B.C.

According to the smarter than I am guy I was talking to last night, they were pretty much absorbed into the land that is now known as Syria, although some of the Palestinians lay claim to there name "Canaani" and lands.

The word "Philistine" is cognate to "Palestinian", for anyone interesed in etymology. So "Philistines" (whom we know from the Bible) came from places which are in present-day Jordan and Israel. Not modern-day Syria. "Syria" was a Greek word used to refer to the whole Levant.

So the Palestinians have their name from the Philistines, but are they Philistines? No. The Palestinians are Arabs, and the Philistines were not. See: http://www.eretzyisroel.org/~jkatz/meaning.html

I think it wonderful how we go from a lady who is tall and smokes, asking for a sailing partner - to a discussion about Philistines? I also look for a sailing mate, but I would never consider a woman who smokes, especially living in a small boat, even if she had every other feminine attribute. The problem with smokers is they don’t realize how smelly they are to non smokers. So even thought I also am tall, 6’2” I would not be any good for beachgirl.

Boys, Boys, Boys...

When she says smoking, doesn't she probably mean smokin' HOT?

And yes, when thread drift is defined, this one may serve as a good example. Good fun, though.

Good luck, Beachgirl. While tall, my smokin' days are long gone (if I ever had any).

So, to get this straight, Philistines don't drink Armagnac?

Good luck Beach Girl and I hope your dream sailor comes along sooner than later...

IMHO based on 45 years of drinking, an Armagnac drinker is a trustworthy adventurous person with a good grasp of the essential pleasures of life. The Armagnac should really be accompanied by a good cigar, and a splendid cup of coffee, and good company.

but these days I no longer smoke the cigar.

You should really look out for those cognac drinking people - a sign of a total lack of good character.

AND it's good for you!

Armagnac

"Research conducted by scientists at Bordeaux University (no doubt the research was fun ) in 2007 suggested that Armagnac has health benefits, finding that moderate consumption can help protect against heart disease and obesity. The research seemed to indicate that the benefits derived from its unique distillation process and aging rather than from its alcoholic content. The southwestern area of France, where Armagnac is produced, has some of the lowest cardiovascular disease rates in the world.

Smoking

And smoking is good for you as well

"A University of Vienna study has revealed that even a deadly habit like smoking can actually be healthy for your arteries.

It might seem to be an unusual paradox, but smoking cigarettes does help arteries to stay open following a procedure to repair clogged blood vessels in the legs, the study claims.

Dr. Schillinger and his research team studied 650 patients with PAD who underwent angioplasty with or without stent placement to open arteries leading to the legs.

The results suggest that delivering carbon monoxide to the site of the blockage could be a promising concept. (ANI)"

most of the time I walk barefoot ... just over 6ft then (1.82) ...
I wouldn't hesitate to wear heels when going out ...
but when I dance ---> it's barefoot again ...

Perhaps good (er, welcome) news to this severely addicted life-long (50 years) heavy smoker, awaiting scheduling for an angioplasty & stent or bypass, to repair an arterial occlusion (iliac).

You can put on your high heels girl. I'm 6'7" tall and like a good Cuban once in a while. The only problem is it's going to be a while before I get down that way. I'm in Seattle and my boat is on the hard for a couple of more months. I'm planing on spending the fall and winter in Sausalito. Maybe we'll bump into each other some time. We'd both be hard to miss...
