Skipper needed for 1wk Athens charter

Hi,

Even though I have plenty of sailing experience I just found out that I require at least a RYC day Skipper cert to charter. Which I don't have, so now we need to hire someone for our charter leaving Athens on 6 July returning 13 July.

We have hired a Lagoon 440 and there will be 1 couple (my husband and myself), 21yr and 18yr old step daughters, 1 teenager (niece) plus our 2 small kids (5yrs and 1yrs).

Thanks, Andrea.

If you have another week available you can get a Day Skipper cert before you go. No exam at the end so guaranteed a pass!

I could possibly skipper for you (RYA Yachtmaster, Commercial, skippered my own 44 ft cat on a circumnavigation) but I'm sure you'll find someone through the charter company.

Hi Jeannius!

I can't do the practical side of the RYC cert where I'm located

The charter company will charge me an arm and a leg so thought I'd see who I could find to pay direct! Cut out the excess.

Re: Skipper needed for 1wk Athens charter

If you could get to Greece 1 week before hubby and kids, there are several RYA accredited schools there where you could do the dayskipper course (non-tidal).

upside: offset cost of course against cost of hiring a skipper (they are always smelly and obnoxious -JOKE!)
1 kid free week.
Convertible to ICC (I think) so in future you can charter anywhere.

downside: hmm, can't think of anything...

Hi Maersi,

A week without the kids sounds great. Downside is that they would have to fend for themselves for a week since my hubby lives in another country...lol. So no, unfortunately thats thats not going to work

Hi Andrea,

Sounds like a shame.
I could probably help you out. Have my Rya coastal and am in the uk at the moment doing an engineering qual. Was skippering a 75' ketch in the Caribbean this winter.
I'm a 35 year old pretty relaxed kiwi

Hi Dean!

Thanks for your reply. I got it all sorted now but I appreciate your reply.

Good luck with your new new qual.

Regards,

Andrea
