Short Notice: Miami to Beaufort, NC

Hi,

I want to move my boat north now that storm season is almost upon us. You can tell want a newbie I am by how long I've waited! LOL. I am alone, and my current plan is to hop up the coast inlet to inlet, when the weather permits, and go inside when it doesn't. I will eventually land somewhere in the Chesapeake.

I'd rather go non-stop from Miami, or Ft. Lauderdale, straight to Beaufort, hoping to get a boost from the gulf stream, weather permitting of course. But I need one more person to help me keep watch. I've done a 4 hr on, 4 hr off schedule for a crossing on a friends boat, and it seemed to work well. But I'm too new at this to trust myself to make good judgements after just catnaps.

My boat is a 1982 Canadian Sailcraft 36', or CS36T. 1 cabin and a quarter berth plus settee makes a double. Galley has 3 burner propane and a refrigerator (v. small freezer box for ice). One head. 30HP Westerbeke diesel; roller furling genoa; 2 reef in main with lines to cockpit; anchor windlass. I'm a beginner, but those who have sailed her with me say she sails well, balanced, sea-kindly motion.

I pay all expenses on the boat - fuel, docking, provisions. If you are coming from reasonably close by, I can help pay for transportation to and from the boat. n Otherwise can only offer experience/sea miles.

So ... does anyone out there nearby in Florida have a few days to spare to help me get north?

I'd even be very grateful for help with an offshore to St. Augustine or Mayport/Jacksonville! You can PM me here and I will get right back to you.

Margo

Unhappy A bust.

Well, we didn't leave after all. We left the marina, sailed for a while - then the engine wouldn't start!. Since the wind was dying and flakey, we had to be ignominiously towed back! (So glad I got the BoatUS tow coverage!)

Now I know it's the starter. It's being rebuilt, and should be in the boat on Wednesday.

Meanwhile my crew, after 2 days hard work in the Miami sun and a serious case of dehydration sickness, has decided to go back north. So I'm back where I started.

Ah, the cruising life!

Try Coconut Grove Sailing Club...I have some friends there who keep their seabag packed. Ask for Bill Beavers his wife is usually happy to see him go to sea and he can fix anything on a boat!

Billy has a great deal of sea time and he never drinks at sea...
