Thanks Grant! Yeah, after posting the first note, I realized it was a little dubious as to our thinking. Hopefully, that has been addressed and all realize we're not on a suicide mission! We're praying to Neptune for the "sleighride" south in calm seas.

Thanks,
Mike & Dawn

Hurricanes do not come north of the tropic of cancer till after July, and then very rarely to the east of 135 W Longitude... The Passage to San Diego, CA is reasonable in late July or August.

Re: Seattle to San Diego/Mexico July 25th

hurrycames do not come or go north of mag bay except extremely rarely. that is a very large mexico cruising ground. hurrycames DO go up into sea of cortez, as water in there gets to 95+ degrees F-- pacific is colder that far north. need hot water for a good hurrycame, as well as perfect (for itself to grow) atmospheric conditions.

Re: Seattle to San Diego/Mexico July 25th

12 days to go. Boat is nearly crammed with more junk than we'll ever need for 20 years - but as long as it's on board, it won't be needed - right? 10 am on the morning of the 25th we cut the dock lines. Sat phone ordered, ditch bag completed. Crew is awesome and now a trip to Costco and we're done! Yard sale this weekend to wrap up the last of the ties to shore. Whew ... do all cruisers go through this much "last minute" chaos? I'm exhausted already!! LOL!

Re: Seattle to San Diego/Mexico July 25th

As a follow up to our original post, all crew and Destiny arrived in Santa Barbara,CA on August 3. We departed Roche Harbor on July 25 and traveled only 5 miles to Reid Harbor, Stuart Island. Decided to spend the day getting everyone's "head in the game" and an earlier start on the 26th. So, technically, we did 1145 miles in 7 days - all downwind sailing & motoring for 2 days. Wind was square on the nose. Worked well as I was able to catch a few nice tuna! Thank you so much for Wayne, Dana & Diane for your time aboard and keeping me awake on those long night watches! Okay, 3 hrs just seemed long Now, it's cruising in so cal getting tanned and waiting for the baja haha! Yippee!!!

Nice. Average speed would be about 6.8 knots--163.5 miles per 24 hours--perhaps not record breaking, but still pretty good time for the passage.
