Re: San Diego to Puget Sound

Thanks all for your response! I believe I now have a good crew member who will assist me on the windward trip. I'll be getting underway next weekend. Ya'll can wave as the Ugly Duckling passes by the West Coast Ports.

If you need some help in SD this coming week I might be able to help some.

A house is but a boat so poorly built and so firmly run aground you would never try to refloat it.

Re: San Diego to Puget Sound

I did this trip when the boat was headed south. Good boat and the skipper is a great guy! I highly recommend doing this if you are interested.
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks, you were and excellent crew as well. I highly recommend Mark, knows his stuff.

We are already northbound and anchored in Bodega Harbor right now. In the morning we'll go in and top off with fuel, then up the northern Cal coast.

Re: San Diego to Puget Sound

Breaker! Breaker!
May I hijack this thread, please?
I am taking my boat (Baba 35) from Seattle to San Diego after Labor Day.
Thought I had good crew, but he begged off last week.
delmarrey or Mark2772, are you interested in making the trip again?
I won't be exclusive, if there is someone else out there reading this post who is interested, please respond.

I've been prepping my boat for 3 years and while there are still things (watermaker, solar power) yet undone, she is ready for the trip and so am I.
I've sailed for 20+ years on others' boats and purchased this one four years ago.
My first off shore experience came last year on a friend's Hughes 38.
He was quite the experienced sailor and the trip was a thrill for me.
Ready to do the same with my boat this year.

Thanks for considering my request.

Dan

Re: San Diego to Puget Sound

The sooner you head south the better!

We are in Roche Harbor right now with a 1/2 day left to Blaine.
Starting in LA and north, you'll never know what you'll get, sea and weather wise. The forecast are misleading. It's just when September hits, all hell breaks loose up in Alaska and starts sending weather fronts down the coast. The longer you wait, the more severe it gets.

Our trip north was worse between Oceanside and the Oregon boarder. Even then the bars crossings were closed all the way to Washington. The boat spent a lot of its time being the yellow submarine, with nose into the wind and waves.

We hit 30kt winds north of Catalina for a day but the rest was around 15kt head on. Not much to sail on. It was mostly the 5-15' swells that kept us busy.

Every trip is different except the September+ fronts.
