Sailing to the Virgin Islands from St. Augustine, FL

Hello,

I'm sailing to the Virgin Islands from St. Augustine in a 1974, Sparkman and Stephens 40' ketch. A nice solid cruiser. Leaving in Mid February. But there will be a try out time. I'm picking up my kids in Nassau and we're going to go cruising for a couple of weeks. So the first leg of the sail is only from St. Augustine to Nassau. If we get along, then come back on March 28th and I would be sailing on to the Virgin Islands.

I am a competent sailor and have been a captain for many years, in the US and Europe. I've lived on, sailed and chartered this boat since 2004. Just finishing up a minor refit this month and time to go find some work in the Virgins.

This is not a free trip, you are expected to split costs if you are a competent sailor and more than share your costs if you are a beginner. Sorry but I just dropped a zillion dollars into the boat and have two children in college and can't afford to be too generous right now.

I have an old sailing website up that's on my profile.

I'd be happy to do this, pay my way as I need to get to Anguilla pretty soon. I have a job offer and house lined up in St. Maarten. Would you be going that far and if so, how much to get me there in 4-5 days? is that likely?

Well I don't know exactly how long it will take. I doubt it would take 4-5 days though. I'll be leaving out of Nassau Bahamas around the 28th of March, stopping in Georgetown for a few days, and then making my way down as the wind allows. So I wouldn't plan on an exact date.

Thanks for the reply. I really should arrive there by mid Feb to begin the job. Probably have to resort to flying over.
