Queensland to NT Australia

Wanted mature aged woman to be a sailing companion.

I am a 55 year old self-funded retiree man whose wife doesn’t want to go sailing. I am seeking a female sailing companion to cruise along the Queensland coast, perhaps further to Darwin, Port Hedland, Timor, Noumea etc depending on our whims.

The yacht is a well appointed and seaworthy 11 metre sailing catamaran. A separate cabin is available.

I have over 25 years experience sailing including off-shore passages to New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji. I am very self-reliant and capable in a range of situations.

The person must be a non-smoker; have a sense of adventure and fun; be happy and easy to get along with; and be physically fit and healthy. The person should also be comfortable with the lifestyle which will mostly be days and days in the sun and warmth, reading books, listening to music, walks on beaches, beachcombing, swimming & snorkeling, perhaps some fishing, bbqs & sunset drinks, socialising with other yachties, etc. A handicraft or skill to fill the time such as sewing, or playing a guitar might be useful. The bad points: some find this life tedious and boring (my kids); there are mosquitoes & crocodiles; ones activities are frequently determined by the weather; occasionally strong winds and bad weather; the need to take turns standing watch at night on the occasion when we sail through the night; no daily fresh water showers, poor laundry facilities etc.

Share living expenses (food, LPG, petrol) but not boat repairs/maintenance. Chores also to be shared depending on likes and dislikes. I am a good cook and usually do most of the cooking.

No fixed time period, but you would need to be prepared, if things worked out well, to stay until the cyclone season begins in December.

On a personal front, I have been with my wife for over 30 years and we have 3 children who are for the most part independent of us now. I have no intention of leaving my wife, other than for the next few years while I pursue some sailing adventures. She wants to continue her research work and doesn’t really like sailing. I have degrees in science and education, have worked in research, as a teacher and as a senior federal public servant. I have traveled widely. I am an atheist. My other interests are flying (I have my own aeroplane), bushwalking, mountaineering and cycling. I am very physically fit for my age and don’t smoke or take any drugs (prescription or otherwise). I do drink alcohol but not to excess.
