Panama Canal Transit - Anytime in April with Advance Notice

I'm in Panama for extended period of time and would like to transit canal as line handler. Either direction works with some heads-up. 40 year old male, decent sailing experience. PM or contact me at wildlawnc at gmail dot com.--Steve

Re: Panama canal transit--anytime in April with advance notice

You might want to e-mail Shelter Bay Marina in Colon and ask them to put the e-mail up on their bulletin board.

My girlfriend and i had some success after e-mailing Captain Jacks in Portobello. It seems a lot of boats stop by there en route to the Colon side of the Canal.

Alternatively, our poster at Balboa Yacht Club on the Panama City side got quite a few replies.

Re: Panama Canal Transit - Anytime in April with Advance Notice

There are 3 boats right now in Shelter Bay Marina that will be transitting this Saturday from the Caribbean to the Pacific and all 3 are looking for line handlers. All you gotta do is go down to the marina and have a look at all the cries for help on the notice board.

Re: Panama Canal Transit - Anytime in April with Advance Notice

I just transited the canal north to south. Had no trouble finding line handlers by putting a notice up at Shelter Bay. Even then most just came by the boat and asked if they could help out. We had 5 volunteers and a great time going through as we did it in 7 1/2 hours Colon to Balboa. Not a record but no slouching either.
