Noob Wants Experience

The short version of the story is I work for a medical device manufacturer and my devision(thus my job) is being eliminated 30 June. I've wanted to cruise for a long time but had'nt the opportunity. Unemployment is giving me the perfect excuse to get on with it. I would like to see what the possibilities would be to crew to gain the knowledge I need to then aquire my own boat and cruise. I need no compensation and can pay for my expenses. Available after 30 June with an open window after that.
Short Bio is:
49 y/o male married but will be alone
Former Navy Corpsman (as if there is any other kind!)
Surgical technologist
Currently a clinical specialist
CPR certified
Little big boat experience but can sail the hell out of a Hobie
Licensed Aerobatic Pilot
PADI Rescue Diver w/ NITROX
Raced hydroplanes for 12yrs
Non Smoker
Social drinker

Re: Noob wants experience

Thanks CaptJack but I think a circumnav might be a bit ambitious for my first experience. I will keep it in mind as things develope. If there is still an opportunity when the time comes I will consider it. Thanks very much for the offer.

Re: Noob Wants Experience

Just to update I've gladly accepted an opportunity to crew a Beneteau First 51 from Darwin to Thailand. Thanks John! It will be from late July until whenever we get there...Probably four to six weeks. After that I will get hot on buying a boat and heading to the Caribbean...or at least prepping to do so depending on weather.

Hi Jeff,

Seems you snagged a great starting voyage - Darwin to Thailand. Not bad! Don't suppose there are any berths remaining for a keen, easy going and reasonably experienced sailor? Any chance u could put me in touch with the captain?

Many thanks!

Matthew

Re: Noob Wants Experience

Hey Matt,
He saw my original post and emailed me off the board. I'm sure he will see your post and contact you if he is interested. I'm cautious not to overstep my bounds. You might also want to contact captainjack38. He is planning a circumnavigation that I did'nt think I was ready for.
Regards,
Jeff

Thanks Gord,
I did'nt expect my training trip to involve a gig in SE Asia but it will be worth it. My contribution will be as the medical specialist and I'm also an experienced firefighter but in every other way I'm a student.
