Newbie Looking for Weekend Daysailing - SE US

I'm an experienced powerboater, but I want to learn sailing.

Charleston would be best for me since my boat is there and I'd have a place to stay. But I live in Atlanta and can drive to points along the SC coast, extreme N FL Atlantic coast, FL panhandle and AL or MS.

Just a ride would be fun, but if I can pitch in and learn, that's even better.

Non-drinking. If you prefer, I won't smoke on the boat.

I'm a jack of all trades and pick up new concepts quickly. I know a little about rules of the road, plotting on paper charts, some about electronics, mechanics, etc. I am very good at recognizing consequences while learning something new, so I won't be the type to play with switches, valves and lines without knowing what they do. I understand the need for a captain and will follow orders.

My friends and co-workers always note that I am even-keeled and very easy to get along with.

I would prefer a ride with an experienced cruiser. It is passage making that is my final interest. And I'd rather learn from someone who isn't as likely to teach me bad habits. Also, I like a safe ship that is well founded. I have rules on my powerboat and keep the safety gear in good working order. I feel better when I ride with people that do the same on their boat.
