Re: New Bern to St Augustine

Hey,
I live near Charlotte and can take the time off. I am not the experienced local you are looking for but I can be an extra set of hands. Transportation to and from is not an issue. If you can take a third person along I would like to build the experience. Will you please contact me at 704 791 2710 or e-mail abwhitley@carolina.rr.com
Thanks,
Bobby

Thanks for replying but I am really looking more for someone who has made this passage before. I have some crew already, I would just feel better having a veteran on board as well

Re: New Bern to St Augustine

Hopefully, you do not plan to enter the St. Augustine Inlet. The inlet can be very dangerous with a NE blow. The better choice is to enter The St. Johns River Inlet(Jacksonville/ Mayport) and motor South to St. Augustine.

I am a professional captain in St. Augustine. I have done that trip numerous times. PM me if you are still looking for someone who knows the local waters from NC to St. Aug. Scott

Re: New Bern to St Augustine

Thanks for all the replies, after some setbacks I think we may try going just via the ICW. For that I would need someone to man the helm during the workdays as I have to work over the internet but this should make for a far easier trip. Some ocean sailing on the weekends or good weather days if we can manage it.

Re: New Bern to St Augustine

With the exception of some inlets the icw Actually presents more hazards and requires more diligent watchkeeping than going in the ocean. It can also be a rhumb line course rather than the meandeRing required esPecially in Georgia but certAinly the inlet at jacksonville is pretty easy. Experience is most required on the icw. .. rather than ocean.
