Crew Available: Marine Biologist looking to join a crew

Hi all--

I'm new here and wanted to put a hook out. I'm a marine biologist and will be completing my PhD this spring (2015). I specialize in invertebrate biology, particularly cnidarians (corals, sea pens/fans, hydroids and jellyfish) and plankton biology. However, I've also been trained in ecology, evolutionary biology, geology, oceanography and marine chemistry. I see graduating as an opportunity to get out and explore the world a bit. I have teaching experience at the high school and college level, am scuba certified and have extensive field experience. I've got a couple weeks of ship time under my belt, and am eager to learn about sailing (I've only been on research vessels).

....so, anyone out there looking to bring a biologist on board? Any suggestions on job I might be particularly qualified for?

Not sure what you are looking for, but a good acquaintance of mine whose PhD as a wildlife biologist was on penguins (can't remember which ones) does tours with Antarctic cruise ships as their naturalist every year. He is our jurisdiction's species at risk biologist, and he does this during his yearly leave time.

Considering what you are specialist in, a tropical location as guide/naturalist/resident expert would be more appropriate.

Just a thought.

Thanks all--these are great suggestions! I'll check out the Jandy, and see if I can figure out how to get in touch with a cruise ship of some kind (that sounds *awesome*). Really appreciate all the feedback. Any other ideas of course welcome too!
