Looking for Captain / Crew, Europe to Australia

Hi, am negotiating to purchasing a 37' multi in Barcelona and am after info on finding a captain to undertake this trip (with his own crew or volunteers etc, I'm open).

The earliest this trip could take place would be Feb 1st (weather and time of year aside)

Am interested in what people charge for such gigs per day or per mile and what some of the other costs would be, particularly around Panama and any port taxes etc.

This will give you some fairly good impression of what your boat will go thruogh and the possible time scale for passage.

What are the thoughts about going via the Sewers canal, are pirates still an issue off Somalia?

pirates would be the least of your worries if you left in feb,as the ne monsoon is well established by then,so you would be punching in to 25 knot trades all the way to darwin or perth,

Am aware of the weather, just wondering about the current state of piracy. I've received a number of PM's with people suggesting they would happily captain my catamaran through what I thought were heavily pirate infested waters!

had an extensive discussion about this a few weeks ago, see" how to stop pirates" thread.

ive crossed the gulf of aden 5 times and never had a problem, though luck and cunning probably helped, but if the vessel is headed for the east coast of aus a trans pac would be more sensible, and timing is right to depart europe and arrive in aus by june

And Good Luck to them all too... Gimme downwind and pirate free anyday... there's enough odds normally without looking for 'Extra's'
