Hello all,

If anyone is interested in joining my boat this summer, I am looking for someone who is competent and experienced in moving large boats. I also need training. I have a loose plan that entails getting the boat from Alabama to Florida. Staying in Florida for 2-3 weeks, then possibly heading to the Bahamas for a couple weeks (if time allots), then up the coast to Boston. I would like to leave Alabama right around June 23.

I will have my kids (teens) aboard.

What size inverter and battery house bank? As you probably know a 20 kw gen set lightly loaded (1/4 output) running 24 hours per day will consume $80 per day in diesel. If inverter and battery bank is large enough (and you replace all the incandescent lights with LED) you could reduce run time to about 3 hours per day when not needing A/C. A 20 kw gen set per hour @ 1/4 load uses 0.6 gallons per hour, at full load 1.6 gallons per hour. If you use the gen set while cooking, the 15 kwhr that isn't going to the galley would be charging the battery bank. It would be at least a $55 per day savings.

Because GG had mentioned she was planning on doing some refits and hoping her new captain would supervise. To keep from having to run a 20 kw gen set 24/7, an inverter would save a lot of coin.

While I certainly appreciate the concern, I never said that I wanted my new captain to supervise any refits.

Dog River Marina took care of everything that needed to be done mechanically. So, I'm in good shape.

The boat already has an inverter.

Questions about battery banks have no place regarding motor yachts.

What a silly statement! How can you justify it? If a M/Y is not to be running the genset 24/7, they too need adequate battery capacity to handle house loads.

You might want to rethink your position here.

I'm not sure they have a place in this thread but most definitely have a place in discussions of Motor Yachts. The bigger the boat the more the issue.
