Re: Lookin' for Some . . .

In 2005 the transit fees were 1450 for up to 50 feet then add line handlers and cruising permit and so on I think it was 2490 US dollars or thereabout

Re: Lookin' for Some . . .

the site online fo rpanama canal quotes 1850 for my length boat IFF i do not measure over 50 ft. i should measure 47 or 48 ft with sprit and mizzen boom. there are also the fees for pilot and handlers of lines and lines and such added stuffies.
5000 dollars outgo is not a bad guesstimate, as i was advised by my unlimited master cpt friend who has done this in sailboats many times recently--i believe the prices i saw were as of 2007.
in 1990, when i was first planning my trips, the fees were 300 dollars. that changed when usa decided to give away the management of the canal to others. now it is high.
much of the money is refunded at the end of the journey, but takes a bit of time for it t o appear back in the credit card account. it is wise to have 5000 dollars total to start the trip--will not be up to only one soul to pay for this adventure--will be shared. dont know yet how many crew i will have for canal.

Re: Lookin' for Some . . .

right now is named storm season on 2 coasts and caribean -- not too many folks sailing anywhere south of mag bay. there are some folks hiding in sea of cortez.
there are folks looking for crew for november's opening of the cruising window.
this is summer--rain and heat season in pair a dice. much waiting and watching and airplane travel now.
