Key West to Cancun

I have a Pro line 26 Walkaround wth a 250 Mercury Efi. Need a captain to motor the boat with me to Cancun or Isle Muejes Mexico /first or second week in January.

From where?

How much fuel can you carry? How much do you burn and at what speed?

May I ask why you feel you need a captain?

Re: Key West to Cancun

Not an easy trip in January, the Yucatan Channel is not a nice place to be when there is a northern low dipping south. We were in Cancun last January and the big (60 ft+)sports fisherman who were arriving for the fishing season reported a very hard trip. We listened on the VHF to two power boat rescues.

At least one of the St Pete to Isla Mujeres sailing regattas in April has experienced severe weather and the year I did it we had 8 ft seas and 35 knots.

It is about 350 miles between gas stations unless you are willing to go into Cuba you should carry a big reserve. You should not assume you will be able to plane the boat once you get out of the protected waters of the Keys to Dry Tortugas.

In a single engined boat you are in real trouble if you have a failure.

rescue at sea, jan 22, 2011 - CNN iReport

Good luck.

Re: Key West to Cancun

Tulum 3.. I am a licensed captain and have ran this trip many times across the Yucatan.. My advice is to wait until the summer months. This time of year is rough. I know the Pro-Line 26 very well. You will most likely need extra fuel cans for the trip.. But the seas may be too much for what the boat was designed for. This is just my advice. I am all about safety.

Re: Key West to Cancun

I was in Cancun a week ago. The wind was howling all week and I think 5 of the 7 days I was there I was thinking to myself "I'm glad I'm not out in that".
