I Want to Sail!

Hi,
I'm Charlie and i know it seems young but i'm 16 i have had a lot of sailing experience in all different types of areas and weather, I'm looking to join a crew mainly for racing and regattas but would also love to join any type of long distance cruise (circumnavigation or transatlantic).
I'm currently living and studying in the south of England, but i can move all around the world.
I speak French and English fluently, i'm not too bad as a cook or as a sailor and learn to work with different types of boats very quickly.
Please contact me if you have anything i can do (litterally anything, from fixing to racing as long as it's in relation to sailing boats)
Have a great day,
Charlie

Charlie, I am in the process of purchasing a trimaran that will need some work done to her. Mostly sanding painting and some fiber glass work.

Then will sail south to Panama then decide where to take her.

What about your schooling what does.tiff parent a think.

The boat is on the west coast of California

Hope to here from you soin

Re: I Want to Sail!

What do you actually want as you can come to Puerto Rico on my boat for some training and inter island sailing.

Let me know and a few dates and I will take you more or less as a half cadet, case of scurvy, pirate, keelhauling, pressgang, ho ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Have you any Buccaneer gear?

Do you have a sextant?

A lot of odd things on this forum... runaways are just not what they used to be. Remember the bandana tied to the end of a stick?

and Dick Whittington had a cat too, sadly those streets aren't paved with gold.

Charlie, masses of opportunity to sail in the UK, I would finish the studying first though.

Re: I Want to Sail!

Kidding aside (no pun intended - really!)

In the US, 18 years old is the age of majority. You are considered a child here, and cannot do much on your own without parental consent.

Maybe it's different in Europe, but in the U.S. kids your age sometimes (rarely) get "emancipated", meaning that they are released from their parents care and have the legal rights of adults.

Even so, I think you'll find it tough to get anyone to take a 16 year old kid out on a boat without the direct interaction of your parents (if you have parents - sorry - I don't want to be presumptuous on that point)

Re: I Want to Sail!

Charlie, I suggest a repost stating what you just said, along with your current location, your schedule, how far you are willing to travel, and some indication that you are able to cover your own expenses and get permission from you parents.

Still, I think it will be a tough sell at 16 only because there are risks for adults associating with kids, especially in potentially dangerous situations where insurance limitations may apply.

If you are near any kind of water, there should be a sailing club near you, most likely with other teenagers in the club. Have you checked that out?
