Hampton Roads Area

w/m 46, Don't have boat, but would love to start gaining sailing experience on something other than a hobie cat. Either a day sail or a bit longer, will hopefully be buying sailboat in near future.

The Caribbean 1500 fleet is still sitting in Bluewater Yachting Center waiting on a Monday start. There may be some boats looking for crew to Tortola because of the start delay.

Having sailed the Hampton Roads area, if you are buying a day sailer, I'd look at a swing keel or center board boat. The sand bars do shift in the Bay and you WILL run aground. While you can get out and push, lifting the keel and floating off is easier and passing boats might not even know you scrubbed the bottom of your boat.

The boat, Chessie Flyer comes to mind.

Thanks Khagan, I will definately not be looking for a full keel and the Chessie is a bit old style,,,will be looking for a newer catalina/hunter or older O'Day 25-30ft.

If you can get to Westbrook, CT, we are sailing to Bermuda in the next weather window. Probably Friday night or Saturday morning. Looking for crew. Private message me if you are interested. We have a 55ft catamaran. Very spacious and comfy...
