oh that is real cool, that is why I am waiting to the end of October to start my voyage, waiting until hurricane season is over, maybe we can hook up and have some drinks before we head out.

Re: Gulfport, MS to Key West, FL

Goodmorning. I have sailed this leg. Also the gentleman that posted about his sailing from Jacksonville to Mobile - We shared as Captain for that cruise. Since I live in Fayetteville AR we would like to come up one week-end to see the progress you have made with your yacht. His name is Steve Smith at 1-479-263-3097 and my name is Bob Williams (retired military, and retired Paramedic) 1-479-409-6857. We will pay our own way.

I have a question, why not transport your boat to the Mississippi river and go south on the rivers? May save some $$ and enjoy a cruise on the river. Sounds like a good way to get away from winter, enjoy.

Re: Gulfport, MS to Key West, FL

I'm curious if you've found your 2 crew members yet?

I'm am ex-army, divorced male of 38 years old. My sailing experience is limited, however I did just earn my asa keelboat certification and loved it. It wasn't enough time on the water and made me desire more of a challenge. I have many other helpful skills that will be helpful if you'll have me. I'm kind of a jack of all trades. I was hoping you had room for one more for your trip. I'll be finishing my tech. school classes around that time but have to check in about a week to be sure exactly what date I finish my last course. It is real close to the date you have set.

Re: Gulfport, MS to Key West, FL

Hey ya River Cruiser, I did check into having the boat hauled to the Mississippi,.. but there are limited places to put her in, limited diesel availability and have to watch out for barge traffic, in the long run I believe it is easier to have her trucked to Gulfport.

Re: Gulfport, MS to Key West, FL

Hey ya Swabbie Steve, nothing is quite definite yet, though I do believe one person, Jimbo is pretty much a go. Getting alot of interest in my trip, which is real cool, I know I am excited.
The dates are all tentative, depending on the boat getting to Gulfport on time and and taking her out a couple of times and checking all systems, and waiting for a good weather window.

Re: Gulfport, MS to Key West, FL

Great. Well I'll know for sure next week what day in October I'll be finished with classes. I live in central Georgia, so I'll have to fly to Mobile airport and either get a taxi to the marina where you have the boat delivered. Even better would be if the marina there has a courtesy car and someone could pick me up from the airport ( I'll pay for fuel ). I'd REALLY like the chance to go on this short cruise with you. I have acquired a plethora of sailing books and resources. I've got some extra time before you leave to absorb anything you'd like to suggest in addition to all else I'm studying. Until I know for sure I can't make it, I'd appreciate it if you'd consider me a 'GO' for this trip I won't get a plane ticket until I know my last day of class, you officially invite me, and when we have a set date to leave.

Re: Gulfport, MS to Key West, FL

I live in Gulf Breeze Fl. Would be intrested in your trip. Im a captain and work offshore. Been looking at sailboats hard now for a bout 2 years and would like to get some time undermy belt. Sailed alot when I was younger so its been a while. Grew up with a 30ft Hunter my dad and I saild. I work 14 days on and 14 off. One question is would I have to work my own transportation back to the panhandle??

Do yourself a favor and make sure marina space is available in KW. I was just there, the slow season, and it looked almost full. We had no wind and the water temp is very warm. Good luck on weather, we had thunderstorms.
