Ft. Jefferson, Dry Tortugas

Wife and I were heading down to Key West towards the middle of this month, and we were wondering if anyone needed some sailing crew help and/or company that might be wanting to make a trip over to Dry Tortugas.

If you don't find a boat to hitch a ride on, the fast catamarans that go over for the day are a great value, IMHO. They leave about 7am, back about 5pm, breakfast, lunch, snorkeling gear included. They dock and turn you loose on the island to tour the fort, swim, snorkle, etc. Even have A/C. Seems like it was less than $100pp all in. The snorkeling around the old coal docks that supplied the fort was excellent. Nice beach areas, too.

Thanks. I looked into that. I think it's $165 pp now, unless there's one I don't know about?

Can't believe I found the brochure still in my car:

Suggest you make reservations if your schedule is tight, we had to wait a couple of days last summer before they had room. Memory bad: price was $129pp, kids and over 62 less. It really was worth the price and I'm a typical tightwad sailor. Breakfast and lunch were nice and they did have a bar.

Yep, those of us out there in private vessels run away when the FastCat Ferry shows up! We go hide in the places where the 'ferry boat people' can't go, Loggerhead Key, Windjammer wreck, etc.

Actually, the ferry is OK, they bring 100-200 people out, get there 10:30ish and leave before 3pm. It's quite an influx of people when there is only 4-6 private boats out there. The areas the 'ferry boat people' can't go are the best snorkeling, the best beaches, etc.!

If you are willing to do some sanding and varnish work while you down here, I'll take to there.

You're making that fast ferry sound even more attractive.
