Nah, I've posted that one numerous times before...

Most recently, I was informed that error was largely my own fault for using C-Map, and my failure to cross-check my navigation using Google Earth imagery...

Despite the fact that C-Map was considered to be the gold standard for that region at the time, that CHS charts have the same offset, and that photo was taken probably a few years before most of us had ever heard of using Google Earth images for navigation...

;-)

Yup, radar can definitely come in handy up there at times, and even a hand-bearing compass, as well... ;-)

Not many soft landings around the edges of The Rock, cruising there today one can only marvel at the seamanship of those who worked those waters back in the day, without benefit of radar or electronic navigation...

Grand Bruit, another outport now officially abandoned...

Re: exploring south coast of Newfoundland

I really liked your description - I'm definitely interested. I don't actually have a "bucket list", not specifics, but when a sailing opportunity in the area you spoke of comes into view, I know it lands quickly on that list, so I'd be interested to learn if there is still opportunity for crew openings, shared provisions and the normal other bits. I just did a 2000 nm delivery down the Pacific side of Central America.
The consideration that I ask about, assuming there is still open spots, is time increments. One question is starting out date (if you've not already). But also, if you have a two month itinerary (I"m guessing) , would you benefit from a crew joining who only had say, two weeks available, for a portion of your trip, especially if there were others in similar time increments.
So what I'm saying is I'd love to volunteer crew with your trip (for the time I can manage, about 14 days), I love the cruising grounds you've described (I lived in Maine for 20 yrs), and would to participate. Also, a few photos of the ship (& her name?) would be nice, I'm curious to see more about her, hoping this can work, Thanks!
