Re: Dreaming about crossing Panama Canal, december 2014
If you have some time then visit Shelter Bay Marina (Colon side) and/or Balboa Yacht Club (PC side) and post on the boards there. Hang out at the bar and meet folks awaiting transit. Even if they don't need more line handlers they may be willing to let you ride along.
Its very interesting to see the 100 year old canal working from the inside.

Re: Dreaming about crossing Panama Canal, december 2014
Thanx for the idea and the information!! We'll try this way!!
We'll have around 8 days I think;3-4 night max. in Panama City (looking In Balboa YC) and if nothing happen we will go to Colón and look there for few days... (ALthough i've been told that Colón it's not very nice place to stay in... and just checked out-Marina Hotel is extra expensive ( ). I hope we will manage it anyway!!!!
Nevertheless, if somebody is planning to cross the canal around these dates, please let me know ))

Re: Dreaming about Crossing Panama Canal, December 2014
I am in Panama at the Pacific end of the Canal and there is a VHF net that daily asks if people need volunteer line handlers. While December is a little before peak season a crossing is a real possibility.
If you send me your e-mail I will pass it on to the 'matriarch' that organizes the net.
The dockmaster at Shelter Bay is a delightful Englishman called John Halley. If you call John he may be able to help you from that side.

Yes, for the W Carib Shelter Pay is expensive, but its not actually in Colon, it is across the canal on the old Ft Sherman grounds. Nice place with good hiking around the old base grounds.
