Delivery skipper and crew

Hi Guys,

(admins please move this if this is the wrong spot to post this).

I'm considering my options for a 42ft vessel that is located in Panama but would need to be delivered to Fremantle, Western Australia. Current owner would be willing to take the boat as far as Tahiti if needed.

What would you recommend? Put it on a ship from Panama or pay a delivery skipper and crew from Panama or Tahiti? Can anyone provide some rough estimates on how much I should budget for each option?

Cheers.

Re: Delivery skipper and crew

Thanks all. Have received a number of PMs from captains and also some quotes for freight on ship deck... All in all, the cost would be about the same.

It's all significantly more than I had imagined and would drive the cost of the boat way out of the "worth it" range. Therefore have decided not to purchase the particular boat I was looking at.

No reflection on the skippers who PMd me, a man has gotta make a living, I really just had no idea.

Will have to find something closer to home.

Yup... When one considers the tax penalties Oz imposes on boat imports the boat has got to be a $US350+K 'Bargain' to be worth having delivery/shipping costs added to the purchase price..
Anything less is a DIY job to be worthwhile..
Good luck in your search..

Pmd you with plenty of info - Not nearly as expensive as many make it out to be and can definitely be worthwhile if you buy the right boat, get the right delivery skipper and follow some simple guidelines......

Re: Delivery skipper and crew

Pwillems, care to share rough estimates with us? I spend heaps of time trolling the various sites and see boats and have ben wondering what it would cost to bring a boat across from US to OZ ( I am South of you, Mandurah). Also looking in the 42 ft range. It would be nice to know what the indicative pricing looks like
