Delivery Needed!!

Captain and one person crew needed to deliver 34' sailboat from West Palm Beach, FL to Monterey Bay, CA via Panama Canal. Enjoy the trip! Fuel, food and flight back to East Coast. Contact ASAP if interested. References and experience required.

Re: Delivery Needed!!

I'd be interested in this! I'm not a captain, so wouldn't require pay, but would like onboard expenses/boat costs taken care of. I have over 450 days (as calculated by USCG), with over 6500 miles under my belt. Could have other crew as well.

It may be less expensive, faster, and easier on the boat to just have it hauled by truck across the US.....

Best of luck.

I priced a boat by truck from GA to San Diego and it was a cool $22000

Re: Delivery Needed!!

Huh? That sounds like way too much. If you said that was a delivery estimate, I'd believe it. I'd think trucking should be under $10,000, unless the boat is over 14' wide. Get another estimate.

Re: Delivery Needed!!

I got a quote to move my 34' boat a few years ago and it was $1.50/mile. That does not include the loading and unloading on each end, but that should be less than $1000 on each side. This was a quote from a professional boat mover, not a low-ball estimate from a dude with a truck.

It is not a linear cost... The bigger the boat, the more issues...

a Dufour 50 is 50' and 15' 3" wide... and a big hull that may have issues with clearence under bridges (of course the mast would be down).

A 34' vessel should be MUCH cheaper, and with the recent slide collapse in oil prices I would expect that pricing would be much less today. I still suspect that it would be less then sailing the vessel via panama.

Another option could be shipping on a boat (yacht transport) on a space available basis...

Re: Delivery Needed!!

I can take the delivery from September. I'm a professional skipper with all the qualifications and certificates needed for this sailing. if that is relevant we can discuss the details.

I'm a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner with a 100 GT captains license. Depending on the dates I'd be interested in moving your boat. My name is Peter Andre Arguimbau and I live in Newport, RI. My email is andre@marinergallery.com and I've attached my sailing resume for your review.

Still High...

Unless your height required a pole car... Closer to $3.50-$5/mile +$1.5 per escort vehicle= 1 to 3

Phil, from my reading of the post, he wasn't considering paying the skipper or crew, just covering expenses and repatriation. I guess the privilege of driving his boat was gonna cover the salary aspect.
