I don't blame you one bit for being uncomfortable! Sent you a note, I think via email or private message. Please tell me how you received it so I know. I'm not too sure how this site works. I only visit to read what's going on 'out there' but hope you got it.

Re: Day Sailing, Short Cruises from Haverstraw, NY

Of course one needs to be comfortable with both guests/crew and crew/guest w/ skipper and boat... and even for a day sail. But a offshore passage kicks this match making up to a whole other level.

I've help deliver a boat from the Caribe with a friend I like and loved to sail with. But he had a couple on board for the trip I could not stand... and I think he realized too that they were the wrong choice. Oh well.. it was only a week (of hell).

There are many who want to get aboard and are land lubber material and don't get it and I don't care if they are pleasant or gorgeous. I want people aboard who get sailing, don't need their help but if they like to work the boat and know what they are doing I am perfectly fine with that.

But one still needs to see if there is some sort of match of mentalities... and this can happen with random strangers. But unlike Starbucks.. you can't pay the check and leave when you want.

I suppose someone who remembers CSNY is of a certain generation... and all that... no?

But no... I don't want to listen to that music on board.

Hi and thanks for your response. I'm not really looking for help, so I wouldn't want to pull you away from your Tartan (beautiful boat, btw). I just like to share the sailing - and some of the workload of sailing - with fellow enthusiasts, if they want to come aboard. I do a lot of solo sailing, so good company is always a bonus.

Re: Day Sailing, Short Cruises from Haverstraw, NY

Dennis,
It is quite a pleasure to have a skilled sailor aboard who also is an otherwise interesting person and can engage with in conversation. Landlubbers often have fun but are often more of an inconvenience as they need to be tended to lest they get hurt or mess something up. If things are purring along on AP good company rocks. But when sailing makes demands... stay out of the way if you can't lend a hand... Dylan sung that... but you get my drift.

LOL! I hear ya, defjef. I've been very lucky with the folks I've met through this forum who have come aboard. Some are very knowledgeable, from whom I've learned some valuable tips and techniques. Others I've enjoyed teaching.

You'd be most welcome aboard. Please feel free to email me at jbandd(at)yahoo(dotcom) to see if we can coordinate our schedules.
