It would be nice to know a little more about you and the boat. Other details of interest: Are you covering all expenses? Offering any other compensation? Planning to sail 24x7?

Re: Crew

So sounds like anchoring (or tying up) most or all nights(?). Where in MS is the destination harbor? Do you have a ball park estimate of number of days? I used to own a smaller Endeavour, really sturdy, nice sailors. I'm adding days on the water for a pending certification (have ASA103 so far, working on ICC now). Am electronics & Instrumentation engineer, so can help if there are any electrical projects.

Re: Crew

Great, Biloxi, now I can indulge my pastime of putting the points on a map (thanks Google Maps), and literally connect the dots, 700 statue miles or 608 nm, and appreciating the uncertainty of miles made good, but it seems all of 10 days, assuming sort of a 12 hours sailing day and anchoring at night, from what I gathered is what you have in mind. So 10 days, but could be longer, say 14-15 days might be a pessimists guess.
So thanks for that info. Once I know the specifics of a trip, I enjoy mapping it out. So this map is showing your coastal route in the black line, of course. (The inland blue line is just because 'the Goog' want's to show it as a driving route)

So I think a 14-15 day allotment of time in a schedule should be more than enough. It will be interesting to see how far off I might be with that estimate. Perhaps we might find a few folks who've done that to confirm, but it could vary so much by the wind (which have always been brisk late winter on the gulf in my experience).

Let's see if I can post this photo ... (it worked, cool)

Re: Crew

Although I haven't made this particular trip, I have planned and executed many voyages on the east coast. Your issue will be the long approaches to suitable anchorages or harbors along the coast. If the winds are from the east, you may be able to anchor on a lee shore, but if this is the case, you will have little wind until you make considerable distance to seaward. In many cases proceeding to a suitable anchorage may take 3 or more hours each way, which consumes over half your daylight sailing hours. Consider planning a few 1 overnight or even 2 overnight sails and choosing some nice harbors or anchorages to take a days rest and re-provision as needed. Yourself and 2 crew plus an autopilot would make this work. Best wishes!

Re: Crew

Thanks Bob, that's a very helpful consideration, the time to get in and out of the anchorage, even if at a known location, is not to be overlooked. As you point out, can be a big bite out of the hours/day budget. We'll see what the skipper's thoughts are. But I know I'll adjust my future estimating accordingly. I'd agree that mixing in some overnights would seem sensible, unless exploring the coast is more of the goal (in which case, I'd add more days to my estimate). Thanks for sharing your valuable experience.
