It was my first big trip. We had a good time though the
Hunter 38 had some minor issues, one being algae in the
fuel tank and on the pickup. The
engine started cutting out 65 miles from shore but we were able to keep it running (on and off) until Destin a couple of days later where the
captain sent my son and I home and he stayed to clean out the
tanks before bringing the boat to Biloxi.
The stop-offs were fun: Gulfport FL
mooring field, Dunedin City Marina, Appalachicola, then Destin. Destins Harbor is insane with rookie boater traffic and obnoxious
charter boats, plus it was July 4th.
The
sails were also weak at their attachments and gave way when we tried to leave Destin, another reason to give in.
Weather was fine, didn't see too much
marine life, though. Can't wait to do it again!
