Chesapeake: Around Delmarva Penninsula

Planning now for October trip. Leaving from Norfolk. Up the Bay, through the canal, back down outside. Fun, easy going, safe, are the priorities. 50 something skipper with Bay experience.
10 days or so.

Re: Chesapeake: Around Delmarva Penninsula

Go outside sail to Cape May and back. Easy trip, 30 hours or so with nite sailing/watch, drop anchor next to CG station in CM, spend a day or two, and sail back to Norfolk. Perfect training exercise for more distant port in the future. More coastal sailing experience, less motoring, faster.

Re: Chesapeake: Around Delmarva Penninsula

Nice trip, but Delaware Bay is a gawdawful place. The biting flies are without peer, and there are no anchorages that aren't in the middle of marshes.

Try to time the tidal currents (which are prodigious) so that you can blow through there as quickly as possible.

Excellent!!! We may see you during your Atlantic leg. We are heading out on Oct 15 weather permitting from NYC to Key Lagos.

Have fun and be safe.

Yes, we have AIS on board. The traffic is light, we will see each other if the timing is right.

Plan your stop in Chesapeake City for a nite if needed, free town dock. If it is full, just go inside pass the restaurant and drop anchor there. Just make sure you stay close the bulkhead on the east side. Keep the buoy on your starboard side.
