Caribbean 1500 -Experience Required

Hello all! We are currently looking for a fourth crew member for our transit south to the Caribbean this winter. We are a family crew consisting of husband and wife and 18 year old son. We have owned this boat for 2 years and had a previous boat for 2 years. Our primary experience is on the Chesapeake Bay however the skipper has done 2 coastal deliveries- one in 15 foot seas. Additional "crew" include 2 miniature schnauzers; Snowball (morale and welfare) and Stoker (ship's guard dog and vacuum). The boat is a 1985 Wauquiez Centurion 42. Displacement is just over 24000 lbs with a fin keel and double headsail sloop rig. There is a roller furler for the genoa but also two removable forestays. There is a considerable inventory of sails. Sails for forestays are hanked on. The boat sails well and fast. There are 2 heads, one electric and one manual. Two bunks in a crew cabin as well as V berth (not used on passage) and an aft berth. Lots of upgraded gear including AIS (send and receive) and watermaker. Perkins 4.108 engine very reliable. We are participating in the Caribbean 1500 and are departing Deale MD around October 25-27 for Hampton VA. Anticipated rally departure from Hampton is 7 Nov 11 for Nanny Cay, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Crew must have ability to handle helm and stand watch, sail changes, reef, and most of all should have experience of passagemaking. Some sail adjustment will be done on deck as not all lines are run to the cockpit. Crew are expected to be reasonably neat and tidy and to pitch in with keeping boat habitable (ie clean up after themselves!). Not expected to cook. Racing experience would be helpful as the sailplan is "old school"- no in mast furlers, no electric winches. Crew are expected to find their own way to and from the boat but are not expected to pay for meals or repairs. Crew will be required to wear lifejacket and harness whenever topside and should have own gear, including tether. Crew must be Canadian or US citizens and speak passable English although our son is fluent in French. Boat is currently in area of Annapolis, MD (Deale).

If you think you might be interested please contact us by pm asap. The crew we previously recruited dropped out because he got a new job. Deadline for withdrawing from the 1500 is tomorrow so if we still do not have crew by then we will withdraw and go to plan B!

The Caribbean 1500 people have a volunteer crew list somewhere, try emailing them.
