Captain needed for Indiantown FL to St. Pete FL

Had commitments from a friend with good experience to come down and plans fell through, we are now exploring the option of a delivery captain who doesn't mind teaching during the uneventful motor through the Okeechobee waterway. Two crew onboard, one with experience the other without any. Looking to launch our 1985 Hallberg-Rassy HR352 this Friday then begin the journey Saturday morning. Please message your price quote and resume or website showing reviews. Thank you!

Can't help you with the delivery, but are you aware that your mast may not clear the Port Mayaca RR bridge?

I was under the impression anything under 49' was good with the bridge? We are 47' tall. Thanks for any info you can provide

You'll be just fine with that mast height. We went through with 52' and some extra for antennas and such... but we did have to get tipped to fit.

If one of you has experience, do you need a captain? It's a pretty easy run.

We're in Indiantown too. Right in the back of the work yard.

Matt, thanks for the info. I spent 5 years in the coast guard primarily on our law enforcement boats but it's been 2 years since I've stepped foot on a boat. Had plans for a friend to come down to help but unfortunately fell through. We are still debating doing the run ourselves but my girlfriends experience is very limited. We should be in the yard this Thurs we are the HR right next to the exit in storage, stop by if you have time!

We took a couple to the Bahamas last year who, like you, had mostly just power boat experience. It's a great idea getting someone aboard so you'll at enjoy and learn during the actual sailing part.

47' should be no problem, info I saw indicated your boat had about a 49'6" air draft, obviously that was wrong.

Re: Captain needed for Indiantown FL to St. Pete FL

Not sure if everyone is aware Florida gov. Rick Scott has declared an emergency related to high water in Lake O in the form of the Lake O Loan program. Problem is that there is so much water in the lake that the ACE is releasing a billion gallons of water a day to the West side of the waterway and 1.7 billion gallons a day to the East.

Bottom line is my boat which has a 52' 10" mast height is stuck in Ft. Myers because the 54 foot bridge I was able to clear getting to Ft. Myers not has around 52 feet of air underneath it since the water way is running around two feet above mean high water.

Not sure what is happening on the East side of the waterway but I know it is running some what high. The ACE web site has real time updates but it changes day to day. Last time I checked on the East side it was 1.94 feet above MHW and around 940% of the normal water flow.

Also keep in mind that some of the big power boats can throw up a big wake, I have seen two or three feet, which can cause problems. When I brought my boat up river I anchored to wait for a calm period to clear the 54 foot bridge.

Hope this helps.

Can supply lots of recommendations if you give me your E-mail. Can also send license and resume. Most recent delivery was a CT-56 from upstate NY to St. Thomas.

Saturday is too soon for me, but if you end up leaving later, let me know. I've sailed everywhere from Maine to Grenada and learned in Europe. I'd charge about $200 per day, plus expenses.
