California to Florida

I'm looking into a purchase of a Gulfstar 50' Mark II Center Cockpit Ketch. Currently located in LA, and would be looking at getting it via Panama to South Florida in the coming months.

Unfortunately my work schedule doesn't allow me time to make the trip myself so thought I would see if anyone might be interested.

Not confirmed until I can get over to check out the boat later this month. And would be looking at the trip taking place over Oct/Nov/Dec or thereabouts.

Any potential interests please respond.
Cheers.

Re: California to Florida

Wouldn't it be cheaper to transport it over land?

Maybe so, also looking into options for a land transfer. Do you know of any particular company that you could recommend?

Yes, I really like this boat too. Used to run charters on one. Comfy above and below decks, nice lines, and sails well too.

Hmm...and I would like to cruise the Pacific side...maybe I would be interested in the Delivery too, but only if it could be done on a cruising schedule and not during hurricane season. Have the owner aboard as his schedule permits. In exchange I would do it for delivery related expenses only. OP -- interested?

Re: California to Florida

I would be interested in half the trip if someone else also doesn't have enough time to take off for the whole thing. I would want to know that we had an experienced captain though...

If the OP is interested in my posted suggestion, then I've got time to skipper the whole thing.

I'm an experienced captain/cruiser/instructor, hold a USCG 100-Ton, ASA Instructor Evaluator, thousands of miles on many different types of boats (including this model of Gulf Star) in many different venues. I live in the Western Carib, used to live in SW Florida, and my boat is currently on the Atlantic coast of Panama -- so I already know much of the route for this trip.

My usual cruising crew (GF) is not too wild about long offshore runs, especially if the weather is a bit nasty, so certainly some legs where taking on crew would be likely.

Hey, this could be fun, a collaborative CF yacht delivery! Captained and crewed entirely by CF members! Schedules coordinated and updates posted right here on CF!

If you cant make the trip yourself, why not buy a boat in Florida.

Re: California to Florida

This is more like it!

Sorry for the confusion, I am new and working on posting correctly.

Also...

I am planning to go to school in Colombia starting January of 2013. I have been seeing if I could crew a boat headed in that direction around that time. I am originally from NW Iowa, and currently have no sailing experience, but I will be getting some experience on Long Island Sound in the next few weeks.

As I mentioned about Colombia, if I could crew on a boat headed that way, I would be very willing to work for little compensation.

I apologize for my land lubbing language if I used any, and please keep me in mind as you plan for this venture.

Regards,
Klaus
