Alaska this Summer

I'm planning a trip to Glacier Bay and back this summer.
Probably leave from the Seattle area around the start of April. Return late August.
That will be followed by a Mexico trip - but that's another story.
Boat is a Peterson 44.
Shared costs would be good.

Dear Letamure,
We are two; husband and wife, 40 years sailing experience, retired. Could you be more specific about crew you are looking for, please.

Re: Alaska this Summer

I pretty much open at the moment Marti. I curently have no one except my dog.
I want to leave around the start of April and be back here (San Juans) by the end of August / early September. I need to go further south then, and don't want to leave it too late.
Where do you live and what timing are you looking at?
My email is steindlj at yahoo dot com.
Thanks

Re: Alaska this Summer

Just though I'd wave and say hello. I am doing a similar trip, leaving Olympia in mid-May, returning mid-September. Maybe we'll run into each other!

Re: Alaska this Summer

You should have a great time. My boy and I went from Anacortes up to Sitka, Juneau, and all points in between. We have a 24' Trailerable trawler with a Isuzu 60. Two months and wonderful memories!

Re: Alaska this Summer

Yeah thanks Arch. I'll keep an eye out for you. I've spoken to quite a few people who plan to head up that way this year. Should be fun.

Hi!
Surely I cannot make it all, wondering if it is possible to join you for a couple of weeks..
No problem paying my share..

Re: Alaska this Summer

Sorry we have to withdraw; I am very allergic to dogs...and cats. We chartered a boat in Prince William Sound several years ago and it was absolutely fantastic. Alaska is just breath taking. Have a great trip.

Re: Alaska this Summer

No worries Marti,
I'm afraid that I just couldn't bring myself to jettison the dog!!
At this stage I'm still on my own, but, you never know, someone might turn up in the next month.
Thanks for the interest.

Don't forget if you are transiting through Canadian waters either leave your handguns at home or post them to yourself at your Alaska destination. i believe you are allowed to have one long gun, rifle or shotgun, aboard through Canada but no handguns. Best check with Canadian Customs on their current regulations, including ammo... cheers, Capt Phil

Re: Alaska this Summer

guns are not allowed but you may have an appropriate rifle/ shotgun to the season of hunting it is currently in Canada that is how you get around it.

Re: Alaska this Summer

Hi, Sam Neuwirth here. I am 53, I have experience in sailing on the San Francisco Bay in Lido 14's. I have spent a recent Summer in southeast Alaska, on the waterways based in Petersburg. I am a builder and rancher by trade and I have skill with tools and repair. I can cover my share of expenses. I like good conversation. I am eager to visit Alaska again and learn more about sailing. I do not use drugs. I drink very lightly. I maintain a yoga practice. I love animals and nature. I can innovate solutions to problems with what is available. I am knowledgeable about construction, and alternative energy systems and their configuration. My goal is to sail and learn and buy my own vessel when I have learned the ropes, and then cruise. You can call me at 707 822 0801.

I'm down. 24 years old. Paramedic from Central CA. Not a sailor but I'd learn. Very experienced Mountaineer/Climber. Need another adventure. Can leave whenever.

Re: Alaska this Summer

Hi, my names Alex.

If you are looking for a handy fellow to help you go south after your Alaska trip I am available. I live in Vancouver, BC and am looking to get an adventure as part of a crew. I unfortunately have no experience but would love to learn and help out. Sharing food costs is fine.

Let me know,

Cheers!
