Hi

I am currently on Oahu.

Looking to sail anytime after April 2016 to New Zealand or any of the neighboring Polynesian islands.

I am strong, determined and fun to work with.

Im a good cook , housekeeper and no stranger to manual labor.

Looking to help out on a boat of any kind.

Look forward to getting in touch with you.

G'Day Max,

I'm surprised at the lack of response to your post. You sound like pretty promising ju nior crew to me, but I'm not in the right place nor in need of your help.

But I can welcome you to the CF, and hope that you find a good ride.

Good luck,

Jim

I can only speak for myself obviously, but when I start looking for crew (not yet ), I'd want to see some info on whatever sailing experience someone has.
When that's not mentioned, I assume 0 and wonder why that's not mentioned or explained.

Maybe that's just me, but since it might help the OP get more responses I thought I'd explain why I wouldn't respond even if I was looking for crew. FWIW

I see....

I do not have sailing expierence but I have expierence with the sea. I have done seakayaking for 3-5 months in Patagonia. I hope that helps out somewhat with my open-sea-credibilty.

Thank you for the kind and constructive words Jim and Lizzy !

Re: 25 Year old female available to help

I am a quick learner and I am looking to get into sailing and learn as much as I can soak up. Its something I would love to do as a hobby and in the future. I hope someone is willing to take on an eager-to-learn- apprentice.

Thank you everyone

Personally, whilst we rarely take on crew, we much prefer someone without preconceived idea's. We actually like to 'educate' crew to our requirements.
We are more interested in personality and how keen an individual is. Everything else is secondary to us.

Try the bulletin boards at the HYC and WYC. Also ask around at the Harbor Pub for Kiwis that might be sailing back home. Also advertise in Latitude 38 in the "crew available" section.

Re: 25 Year old female available to help

Almost forgot. Friday Night races. Just go down to the HYC and tell folks you would like to crew. Be there around 430-500pm. Afterwards you get to hang out at the HYC or WYC and bet you will find someone heading south within the next three months.

Re: 25 Year old female available to help

Hey Max.King, I hope you find a boat and crew to join.

Just a word of warning...watch out for pervs.
Seriously. Once you leave the dock, you are on your own.

I know enough old skippers who will take any pretty young thing aboard.
Nuff said.

Get some sailing experience...anything is better than none. Hang out at the marina/yacht club. Best to join a bigger crew, bigger boat, that has other females. If you have no sailing experience, you might sell yourself as cook...I just hope you don't get seasick.

Best of luck to you.

Yes, get a spot on a racing crew. I would be very careful who I went to sea with and that way you can get to know the people.
It's a long way to Tahiti.

Re: 25 Year old female available to help

The sailing crowd in Honolulu is fairly tight and most know each other. Its also a major stop over for those going down to the "milk run." Never heard of any females having problems crewing on boats doing the south pacific - aussie run. That covers about 40 years. Obnoxious crewmembers, yes; drunk skippers, yes; but otherwise safer than walking the streets of any American big city.

Would like that too ...

But if I take on crew, it's because I'm sailing solo and need the help. Doesn't mean people have to be all-round sailors, but I'd be very, very happy if they were ready to keep watch alone, and handle the most common 'chores' while doing so.

If people have to wake me up for every bleep on the radar or to reef the main, I still won't get any sleep

When there's 2 or more already on board, things are a little easier and there is more time to 'educate' crew.

Having said that - I'd much rather take another female then a male with me as crew.

Re: 25 Year old female available to help

Aloha Max: I'm at Keehi Marine Center (not Keehi State), next door to La Mariana on Sand Island. My dock neighbor (a well seasoned salt) is readying his 40' tri for a sail to Bora Bora in March. He is only taking his wife as far as I know. He might be interested in another hand. I'll probably see him this weekend and could ask if you're interested. Let me know.

Re: 25 Year old female available to help

Not sure a tri is the best way to sail south. But La Mariana is also another place she should check out along with Rainbow Marina(Navy members' boat club) for finding boats heading south.

Re: 25 Year old female available to help

Hi Max,
You are certainly welcome on my boat, but it is in UK and I do not set sail until June for 3 1/2 months of the northern summer. I guess that is no good to you!
