2 girls need a one-way to virgin islands!
2 girls and 1 dog need a one way ride to the US Virgin Islands... We want to leave in October an are trying to plan now. We don't have any sailing experience, however, we are fast learners and can cook like crazy! Compensation can be negotiated- help! Thanks

Preferred Departure Location(s) (country, city)? might be helpful to find a match.
BTW - October is still hurricane season in Carib which tends to influence departure plans of many boats.

Dog?? Check the regulations, if going to BVI. From US mainland to USVI is probably ok. Tony

Not a household of furniture... I only have a suitcase... we have people to meet there and a place to stay- good enough plan for me!

So why not ship your stuff? If it's only one suitcase you could check your baggage on the airline.... If it's the type of "stuff" the airlines or freight carrier won't allow, a wise skipper wouldn't allow it either.

Compensation to you or from you? Spend the summer learning to sail and talk to some folks about 10 to 12 days in the north Atlantic in November -- nobody goes in October. It is not a lark, intersting, excting, fun, yes, but not a lark. BTW, we can't take you, we already have a dog aboard. Good luck.

Re: 2 girls need a one-way to virgin islands!
Afraid your going to end up flying.. Normally boats don't go off sailing from the US east coast in October to the VI's... LOL... In the middle of Hurricane season...
Your looking at approx a week at sea, unless you do the Bahama chain and that's beating to windward from island to island.. A fun trip.. but will take a good month if you don't tarry...
You might possibly find the odd person wanting to go.. But be careful, they may not know what they are doing and put themselves and you in danger...
There may be some possibility of a power vessel that may be transiting for some reason.. But not normally except cargo/ commercial vessels.
You need to do a lot of further research before jumping off on a trip like that... Good Luck..

Re: 2 girls need a one-way to virgin islands!
No one likes a Debbie Downer, but I think your best bet is to fly there. Not too many skippers would want to take one, let alone two crew with no experience for a crossing like that. Chances are there won't be much cooking going on in the voyage either. Fly over and learn to sail when you get
there.

Does anyone else think this is just a bit fishy? What do they really want to transport? Why can't they pass through security at the airport? Is smells bad to me!

Re: 2 girls need a one-way to virgin islands!
A smart skipper won't be going that way, that time of the year.
A smart skipper won't take 2 passengers (plus dog) down either of the routes to USVI on a typical cruising sailboat.
A smart skipper needs crew who can stand watches, reef sails, plot, knows the difference between stars/planets and navigation lights, as well as cook -- and won't spend the first week puking.
I know it sounds romantic, fun, adventuresome, and all that, but you don't want to go with anyone who isn't a smart skipper.
I recommend you find another way.
