WANTED: Sunfish or similer Day Sailer

This past weekend we took our first step in our dream to become live-aboard Cruisers. We took our first Sailing Lessons. Now that we have passed our ASA Basic Keelboat and NJ Safe Boater Test, we are looking for a Sunfish to play with while we save up for the next class.

We are not rich, so it does not need to be cosmetically perfect, but it must be in sailing condition with complete rigging. We have a $500 budget. I am willing to travel up to 250 miles to retrieve if the boat is worth the trip.

My brother has a Force 5 and I really like it compared to Standard Lasers and laser Picos because it is roomier. We frequently carry 2 adults and a small kid.

Just searched NJ Craig's list and found exactly what you're asking for. The price is right and everything. http://newjersey.craigslist.org/boa/403975194.html
Good luck.
Do some more Craig'slist searching and consider somemore fully featured boat's as well. I used to have a Laser 2 and even though it was small, it had pretty much the same rigging as a much larger boat would.

You'd be better off with a Laser, because a) it's a LOT more fun to sail, and b) the sail adjustments are more similar to the mainsail adjustments on a bigger boat, so it's a better learning platform. Even if you have to spend a bit more, the laser is a better boat.

We found her...

Hey everyone, thanks for all your help. We did find the write boat for us. It is a 1887 Catalina Capri 14.2. She was a bit more than we budgeted, but she came with her trailer. Now we are leaning about how to get it titled...but that is another post.

I'll be posting a picture in our profile if you are interested.
