Want to buy: Manual Windlass

Looking for a relatively large manual windlass -- we have a 20,000 lb+ Nantucket Island 38, probably go with a 55lb anchor and all chain rode, I haven't bought the chain yet as I hope to match it to the gypsy of the windlass

Anyone out there switching to electric?

Located Hilton Head Island, SC -- thanks!

Re: Want to buy: Manual Windlass

I have a simpson-lawrence seahorse I pulled off a 15000 lb allied seawind....good shape, one ear of the counting wheel is broken, making the counter inaccurate, but functions fine, comes with a semi-integrated chain break/chain pipe.

Gypsy takes 5/16 chain. Might be slightly light for you, then again maybe not.

Instruction sheet says good to 39' boat, capable of pulling 250kg.

Look at San Francisco Craigslist, search Bronze Windlass. It seems reasonably priced.____Grant.

Re: Want to buy: Manual Windlass

Having struggled for years with a manual windlass, I went electric. Best thing I ever did. Leave the manual nonsense to the Pardeys. Last thing you want is to be sweating up six inches of chain per stroke when its blowing 40 at midnight and the anchor is dragging and you're on a lee shore. Been there, survived that.
