Re: Volvo MD17c 35hp

I bought the boat earlier this year and soon after had a hydraulic lock. The injector liner had a pinhole and let water into the cylinder. It was an easy fix as had a complete spare head ready to go and she was back and running. I will be keeping the boat for a very long time and she was a little underpowered being a 43 footer and Langkawi being a great spot for new engine being duty free. The MD came out on the 3rd of november and was running fine. Any more questions just ask.

North Pacific, do you still have this engine? I am looking for a reverse gear for this engine.

Re: Volvo MD17c 35hp

So don't buy a boat with this engine? Or is it just the transmission? If you do buy one "I'm looking at one" can parts be found?

Re: Volvo MD17c 35hp

It is an old fashioned diesel. Heavy, big flywheel, built to last. Low revs, simple design. If it is raw water cooled it will be scrap soon. fresh water cooled should run for ever. I have had no problem with mine, but parts are very expensive. I literally call around every engine shop in the Lower Mainland looking for parts. pay about 1/3 for stuff that is junk but works.

Trouble with old diesels (volvo) that a small job can be 000 of dollars. If you want to keep the boat look at the cost of new. Try and find a mechanic who will do a once over. Trouble with mine is that I keep on being told it will run for ever:-)
